A somewhat quirky quicky post...

Words from my daughter's mouth overheard in the car on the way to school:

"...Midnight Special...the first DVD is only $9.95 but I bet all of the others are more expensive because they rope you in and you want to buy more..."

My daugher is a real fan of infomercials, especially the mega-collection music kind. You know the ones: "Get the ENTIRE decade of the 1970s on 10 discs for only 149.95! You won't find these songs all together anywhere else for this price!!" I suppose they're probably right. But maybe it's too much of a good thing to have the hits keep rolling one after the other: Hey, it's Donna Summer!, Blondie!, The Bee Gees!, ABBA! After listening to all of that I might emerge from my house one day wearing three different kinds of plaid and that would be very strange wouldn't it?

Anyway, my daughter's latest infomusicmercial obsession is this one. We actually watch it when it comes on. Are we the only ones? I have to admit that these montage masterpieces can be catchy as the commercial loops and the songs repeat, and repeat...and repeat. I mean, you haven't lived until you've been able to sing the refrain of Play That Funky Music 5 or 6 times. And, yes, I have done this. Have you?

Brother, Sister, iPod--United

Here's a view into the back seat of our Corolla during our morning commute to school. The kids are sharing one iPod and one set of headphones. I thought it was cute, and, hey, it's Friday, so I snapped a quick photo. HOWEVER, now as I look closer I see something that really bothers me--no, not the huge, menacing semi through the back window. No, what disturbs me is the position of my son's seatbelt. How long has he been riding around as a passenger wearing his seatbelt like that? And, more importantly, how could I not have noticed?

The days of arguing about whether breakfast is the first meal of the day if it's served at noon are over...

...for a little while anyway--at least until the weekend. That's because today was the First Day of School! My favorite part about school starting again is that it brings a sense of routine back to our family life. We (and I mean me) here at Not so Prickly... do not function well when our routines are in flux. But, on the other hand, with school comes all of the other activities and appointments and commitments (*sigh). So, as with many (or most?) things in my life, I am torn and conflicted; in other words, Thinking Too Much...

I did manage to make them let me take their picture in honor of the First Day Back. They look calm, cool, and collected, but we know what they're really thinking (other than "Just take the picture so we can get out of here..."). We all remember what that first day was like.

From the Here and Now back to There and Then

I go home to these two teenage sweeties everyday, but...

...they keep me company at work too.
